Video of My LessConf 3010 Talk
I had the pleasure of giving a talk at Less Conference 3010 last May titled "Guiding Principles for Running a Successful Little Startup".
The conference was one of the best ones I have been to. Very well organized, very interesting talks, GREAT location with super-fast wifi, good food, fun parties...the works! They also limited attendance to 200 people or so, which made it nice and intimate.
If they organize it again this year, you should definitely try to go.
Last night Alan and Steve posted the video of my talk, embedded below. Aside from the obvious awkwardness of watching myself on video, the main feeling I had while watching it was "I can't believe that was me, only 5 months ago". I feel like I've grown a few years since the end of May, and now realize how naive my expectations of keeping the Balsamiq team frozen in time for the next foreseeable future was.
Anyways, the talk is a bit all over the place, full of mumbling and half-finished sentences...but it was very well received by the (very kind) audience, so I thought I'd share it here.

Thanks for a great talk! Really like the focus on building a great product first and being passionate about the subject. Also the 5 star restaurant on web concept really speaks to me. Also because I’ve got pretty sick of al those talks about funding, Angels, VC’s, IPO’s, etc … really inspiring and refreshing to hear you view, I kind of needed that 😉 So thank you for that!
Next 3 months I’m trying to build my own app (saved up some money to give it a go), after that I’ll probably have to go flip burgers or something to pay my rent.

It is not common to hear a guy, who does not want to double up the sales. I can understand the point which will force you to get more people quickly, hence more money becomes a must. Hey, you might still do the features and slow down the process of selling licenses right ? 🙂
It was a great talk, and I liked your small paper holder like a business card holder 🙂 Oh, btw the books are great!
The first thing I will do, when I start with my new venture is to get a license of Balsamiq. What a great life saver or lets put this a way, a pain killer 🙂
