[Release] Stretchy Phones, New Icons, and More!
Hello friends of Balsamiq!
While most of our team is focused on the next major version of Balsamiq, we continue to make little improvements to Balsamiq Mockups 3.5, driven by your requests.
Let's see what's new in today's release.
Stretchy iPhones, iPads and Smartphones!
We know many of you want to wireframe mobile pages and screens that don't fit in a single screen.
With today's release, you will no longer need to use a rectangle control instead of the phone control. You can just stretch the phone or iPad down!
Thew new option is the default for new controls. Existing wireframes won't be affected.
41 New Icons with FontAwesome 4.7!
We incorporated version 4.7 of FontAwesome, so now you can take advantage of the 41 new icons they added.
Other Bug Fixes and Improvements
- Fixed an issue with the ω character in Balsamiq Sans
- Fixed an issue with exporting mockups that have alternates to BMML ZIP.
- Fixed the ability to take notes while in full-screen. Thank you Mike_Marx and Ryan for reporting it!
- Fixed an issue with using autosize when controls are grouped. Thanks Alexey K. for reporting this!
- We now allow you to transform a Text Area control to a Combo Box control. Thanks Ryan for requesting this!
- Fixed an issue with the {mockup-name} macro when the mockup has an & character in its name. Thank you duncliffe for reporting it!
- Improved the auto-size algorithm when labels are aligned to the center or to the right. Thank you Berthold N. for asking for this!
How do I update?
If you're using the Web Demo, Mockups 3 for Google Drive, Confluence Cloud or JIRA Cloud, you're already updated.
For Desktop, simply install from our download page on top of your current installation. You won't have to re-register.
As always, if you hit any snags with the new build let us know immediately and we'll fix it right up! 🙂
For posterity, today's release is build 3.5.9.
What else is going on?
- We wrote a few blog posts: a retrospective on a long myBalsamiq outage, a post with tips for how support teams can share customer feedback with the rest of the team, and a list of the best Balsamiq sightings of 2016.
- We also interviewed two of our awesome customers: The Keys to Satisfaction as a UX Designer and Becoming a One Person Software Business.
- Leon wrote 3 articles for DocsLikeCode on how we've overcome some technical hurdles in our static documentation site: Multiple product versions, Animated GIFs Pause and Play, Lists Get a Makeover.
- I was interviewed for two blogs: Balsamiq founder on building a lifestyle federation as a business on the Logmatic blog, and If Scale Isn’t The Goal, Then What Is? on the Strong Words blog (this last one has been getting a lot of attention online for some reason).
- We published 2 new "What should I make for dinner" videos: Chicken Noodle Soup and Kofta.
- We raffled off some tickets to UXPA Boston and are still accepting applications for Collaborate UX.
- Hopefully you didn't even notice we were gone, but we had our 2017 company retreat in Florence, Italy. We're going to share more about it in the future. It was great to be with everyone in person, as always.
- As we always do at the retreat, we took new individual and group photos for the company page. Check them out, and click on the group photo up top for a little easter egg! 😉
- Stefano gave a talk at React Amsterdam about how we're using GraphQL for the next version of our web app. Check out the recording!
- We sent out the March Newsletter to our inner circle. This time it was about our software donation program.
Onward!
